“REVOLUTIONARY” PERFORMANCE
AT MOUNT INDEPENDENCE
ORWELL, Vt. – Banastre “Ban” Tarleton, the most hated British soldier in the American Revolution, will be daring to show his face on Saturday, September 27, at the Mount Independence State Historic Site in Orwell, Vermont, when English actor-playwright Howard Burnham brings him to life in his one-man costumed performance at 7:00 p.m.
Burnham as Tarleton, the infamous commander of the Green Dragoons, will reminisce in old age about his colorful life and times in America. In a special section created just for Mount Independence, Tarleton will bemoan the efficiency of the work of Polish engineer Thaddeus Kosciusko throughout the Revolutionary War. Kosciusko designed and built the three gun batteries and adjoining works along the southern end of Mount Independence in June and July 1777.
The program, sponsored by the Mount Independence Coalition and Vermont Division for Historic Preservation, is free and open to the public. Donations to the Coalition are appreciated.
Burnham has been at Mount Independence the past five years. His wildly popular performances included interpretations of British General John Burgoyne and Lord Cornwallis, as well as American General Horatio Gates and Thomas Paine. The doors open at 6:30 p.m. Seating is limited; first come first served.
Mount Independence, one of Vermont’s State-owned Historic Sites, is a National Historic Landmark and one of the best-preserved Revolutionary War sites in America. It is located near the end of Mount Independence Road, six miles west of the intersections of VT Routes 22A and 73 in Orwell. Call 802-948-2000 for more information.
